CED-534 Digital Media Week 5
This week we are exploring nings. I found several interesting Nings; including the Wisconsin Educational Technology ning. The ning is very new and as a result isn't very expansive. However it already has some interesting groups. My postition at work doesn't currently allow me to utilize technology in the classroom, but I am considering creating a ning for the district. On it I would include tips and tools on using our student information system - Skyward.

Making the Podcast
I always thought that I would need a microphone to make a podcast. I'd like to make more podcasts for my personal life. I'm making a blog for the family and I'd like to record some of the stories of the older members of the family. Recording the histories is important before the opportunity is lost.
I used Gcast to make the 'cast.' I think I'll start experimenting with GarageBand to see how I can add music. I think this is going to be a lot of fun.

CED 534 Digital Media Week 3
I'm starting to get a hang of using RSS. I've found a couple of feeds. There just isn't as much for Data Managers as there is for Tech Co-ordinators. I'm most concerned with the use of student information systems and changes in reporting requirements. I'm now receiving the RSS feed for the Department of Education's federal register. These requirements are later passed down to DPI and are then requirements in reporting.
I'm also interested in Response to Intervention as our district is interesting in integrating RTI data analysis with our current student information system. How will the two systems interface to create tools useful for teachers and administrators? Perhaps I will be able to find some RSS fields on the data analysis aspect of RTI.

Use of blogs CED 534 Week 2
Since Im not teaching students I don't have many opportunities to use blogs at school. I've begun to use a blog in my personal life though. I've started a blog for the family to share currect events, pictures etc. I hope that the family will find it enjoyable. I've also started using blogs as a means to research products or services that I'm interested in. I've found that I make better purchasing decisions after Ive read related blogs.

Wiki-Wiki
I admit I'm still not sure what to do a wiki on. The collaborative nature of wikis will require me to re-think how I go about working with different areas of the school district. My job requires that I work with all areas of the organization - Business Services, Special Ed, Councilors and others.
I'm creating different work flows throught the organization. Perhaps wikis could assist in the co-ordination between departments.

Web Editors and Project Progress
I'm making decent progress on my final project. I just want to add a few more graphics and rearrange a few things.
I'd like to spend some time investigating web editors. Perhaps there is a website that describes and compares the different editors. At worst, I'll find a list of the major editors and see if they have any demonstrations.

Reflections on Class
To anyone not aware, this blog is part of a grad school class I'm taking called How the Web Works. While I was at first intimidated by the prospect of learning html, I've actually enjoyed learning the language.
Web page design is much like scrap booking only more technical. Once I made this connect in my mind I realized there was no reason to be intimidated. Although pages are done through editors, learning html seems also a lot like putting a puzzle together. O.K enough with the analogies.
I'm already planning to create some pages for my family when the class is over.

Memorial Day
Happy Memorial Day everyone. While everyone is enjoying the long weekend, please take a few moments to remember those who have died while in the service of our country. May the families of those lost be in our thoughts and prayers.

My 'prim and proper' daughter's crude behavior
I'm usually not a fan of toilet humor, but it seems to be inevitable with young children. Recently my mother was reading my daughter an adaptation of the story The Three Little Pigs in which the pigs pelt the attacking wolf with fruit. As they did this they all yelled in unison "Bombs Away!"
We were at the end of potty training and the next time my daughter was in the restroom my daughter yelled "Bombs Away" followed by the toilet flushing. How did my frilly dress wearing daughter come up with this? She sure didn't get it from me.

First Time Blogging
Hi everyone! After hearing about blogs for years I've finally created one of my own. I have a husband, 4 year old daughter and two dogs. My dogs are half dachshund and half chihuahua so we refer to them as the dachhuahuas. Stay tuned to my weekly posts!
